Dr. Leissa Nelson

Industrial-Organizational Psychologist and Project Director with the Defense Personnel and Security Research Center (PERSEREC), Office of People Analytics (OPA) 

Leissa Nelson is an Industrial-Organizational Psychologist and Project Director with the Defense Personnel and Security Research Center (PERSEREC). Dr. Nelson has been with PERSEREC since 2005 and her research portfolio covers all three personnel vetting domains (personnel security, suitability, and credentialing) with a particular focus on process improvements. Dr. Nelson is also one of the government leads of PERSEREC’s Threat Lab. Her insider threat research has included projects aimed at providing support for both observers and actors of concerning behavior. More recently, she has added projects that support training and professionalization of the insider threat workforce to her portfolio, to include workforce certification as well as training in threat assessment and structured professional judgment tools. Her doctorate degree is from the University of Minnesota and prior to joining PERSEREC, she spent 10 years working in the domain of personnel selection at Personnel Decisions Research Institute (PDRI).
